My Story

I was born with albinism, so to me, it always just felt normal. It was simply who I was. I didn’t know anything different. But as I got older, I started to notice that the world around me didn’t always understand that. People had questions, misconceptions, and sometimes, no idea what albinism even was. Through Our Eyes is my way of bridging that gap, sharing what life is actually like from the inside, with honesty and heart. Because once people truly understand, everything changes.
Through Our Eyes was born from a simple but powerful belief: that awareness creates empathy, and empathy creates change. This project is my Girl Scout Gold Award, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a space where people with albinism can feel truly seen, and where those who want to understand can finally do so, through our eyes, not assumptions.
At the heart of this website are our community bulletin boards. Anyone can anonymously share their personal experiences, no names, no judgment, just honest stories from real people. Others can like and comment, creating genuine connections across experiences that might otherwise never meet. I chose the bulletin board format rather than reading stories one at a time, so that you can see everyone’s experiences together, all at once, the way a real community actually feels. There is something powerful about seeing that you are not alone, and seeing it all laid out in front of you makes that impossible to miss.
Whether you are someone living with albinism, a parent who just received a diagnosis for your child, or simply someone who wants to understand, you belong here. This space was built for you.
